Bodmin Jail Cornwall

Bodmin Jail has to be one of my favourite historical locations, the fact that it is only 8 miles from home and I work there as the Overnight Paranormal Event host, Tour guide and Resident Medium makes me as bit biased.

The original Jail was built in 1779 replacing the original House of Correction and Debtor's Jail in Bodmin town. It was one of the first prisons in the country to have separate cells rather than the communal accommodation. To cope with the increasing population the prison was rebuilt twice during its lifetime. Over the years there were 55 hangings in the area around and inside the prison, 51 of which were public - it was the site of the last hanging in Cornwall that took place on the 20th of July 1909. Bodmin Prison was last used as a prison in 1927.
